Pelvic Health

Pelvic pain can result from scar tissue following epidurals, gynaecological surgery including caesareans, hysterectomies, laparoscopies, prolapse repairs and surgery for endometriosis.  Scars can alter sensation and cause pain or reduced feeling. Scars can form adhesions with other structures resulting in discomfort, tightening and restrictions in mobility which can impact function.

Treatment and mobilisation can stimulate scar healing, reducing pain whilst helping improve movement and function.

Many women will experience pelvic pain as a result of weak pelvic floor muscles but it is also possible to experience problems as a result of over-recruited muscles and pelvic floor muscles that struggle to relax fully.  Symptoms may include:

  • Pain or discomfort internally and or externally in the pelvis, lower tummy, bladder, vagina or anus

  • Difficulty inserting tampons

  • Pain with intercourse

  • Vulvodynia

  • Vaginismus

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Reduced bladder or bowel control

  • Hip, groin or lower back pain
